Volcanoes provide a wealth of natural resources and are ideal places for human habitation. With fertile soils, valuable mineral deposits, bubbling springs, and often lush vegetation, it is no wonder so many cultures have developed on and around volcanoes.
There are hundreds of active volcanoes spread around the world, many of which are located in remote or isolated areas. When humans populate isolated and remote locations, unique cultures develop as the people develop traditions and cultures of their own through generations and generations.
Volcan recognizes the value and importance of preserving these unique and dwindling populations that are living precariously on the edge of destruction and extinction. We focus on the communities that may be overlooked by other relief and assistance agencies because their population density may not be high enough or their volcano may not impact an area with high property values.
We seek out these specific areas and develop programs to help them reduce their risks from harm of the threat from their volcanoes. Our support will come in many forms, including scientific research, disaster relief efforts, public education, and community training programs, to name a few.
At Volcan, we see the value of culture and preserving the way of life for indigenous populations. Please feel free to contact us regarding our work or any of our projects. You are welcome to become a member or a contributor and be an active part of the Volcan Team!
